In Paris somewhere between 1880-1892 he also took lessons in the Atelier Cormon where amongst others van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Matisse and Picabia were taught by the Academian Fernand Cormon (1845-1924) once

Van Andringa painted mainly (flower) still lives and this portrait of an Arab man is possibly an welcome exception within his oeuvre

Eduard Manet painted two oils of this naval battle, one hangs in the Philadelphia Museum and the other one is in the possession of the Met in New York

Robert Verly was a Belgian administrator and painter in Congo in the 1950’s

He set up ateliers to preserve and pass on the craftmanship of the last surviving Congolese sculptors.
 Verly wanted to protect the sculptors from external (Western, commercial) influences and stimulate the continued development of the indigenous art styles

His paintings are seldom appear on the market and are therefore very rare
