The Belgian painter Charlet was one of the founders and a member of the famous Art Group Les XX (1882)

In 1883 he travelled with Theo van Rijsselberghe to Algeria and Morocco in search for new light and different subject matter. He then in 1885 he visited in the company of a.o. the renowned American painter Whistler the villages of Volendam and Marken in Holland

This battle was a single ship fight during the American Civil War (1861-1865) between the United States Navy Warship USS Kearage and the Conference Staes Navy Warship CSS Alabama on June 19th 1864 off the coast of Cherbourg. After an hour the Alabama lost the fight

Eduard Manet painted two oils of this naval battle, one hangs in the Philadelphia Museum and the other one is in the possession of the Met in New York

Terwey has been one of the favorite artists of H.P. Bremmer who advised Mrs Helene Kröller-Müller to collect a few of his drawings. In 1914 Terwey left for Switzerland where he lived and worked until his death.

The NMB Neues Museum in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland organised from 1.3 to 22.6-2014 a large retrospective of his works

Robert Verly was a Belgian administrator and painter in Congo in the 1950’s

He set up ateliers to preserve and pass on the craftmanship of the last surviving Congolese sculptors.
 Verly wanted to protect the sculptors from external (Western, commercial) influences and stimulate the continued development of the indigenous art styles

His paintings are seldom appear on the market and are therefore very rare
